What a Typical Garden Fence Might Cost

Here are rough examples based on the guide prices above:

  • 10 metres of panel fencing (a small back garden side): roughly £350 to £500
  • 20 metres of panel fencing: roughly £700 to £1,000
  • 20 metres of feather edge fencing: roughly £900 to £1,300
  • 30 metres of feather edge fencing (a larger garden boundary): roughly £1,350 to £1,950

Your actual price could be higher or lower depending on the factors below.

What Affects the Price of a Fence?

  • Height: a 6ft (1.8m) fence uses more timber than a 4ft one.
  • Posts: concrete posts cost a little more than timber but last far longer.
  • Gravel boards: these keep timber off wet ground and add years to the fence's life.
  • Old fence removal: included in our quotes, but a very overgrown boundary takes longer to clear.
  • Access: if everything has to come through the house or down a narrow passage, the job takes more time.
  • Ground conditions: sandy coastal soil, roots or hidden concrete can mean deeper or harder digging.
  • Slopes: stepping or raking a fence down a slope takes extra cutting and setting out.

How to Get the Best Value

  • Choose concrete posts and gravel boards. They cost more today and save money later.
  • If your posts are still solid, ask whether just the panels or boards can be replaced.
  • Agree the work with your neighbour first. Sharing the cost of a boundary fence is common.
  • Book outside the spring rush if you can. It is easier to get the date you want.

Fence Prices: FAQ

Common questions about fencing costs in Liverpool

How much does a fence cost per metre in Liverpool?

+

As a guide, panel fencing typically costs from £35 to £50 per metre and feather edge fencing from £45 to £65 per metre. The exact price depends on height, post type, access and whether an old fence needs removing. We give a free written quote after a site visit.

Is feather edge or panel fencing better value?

+

Panel fencing costs less up front and goes up quickly. Feather edge costs a bit more but is stronger, easier to repair one board at a time, and copes better with wind. For exposed or long boundaries, feather edge is usually the better long-term value.

Does the price include taking my old fence away?

+

Yes. Removing and disposing of your old fencing is included in our quoted price, so there are no surprise skip charges.

Are concrete posts worth the extra cost?

+

In most Merseyside gardens, yes. Concrete posts cost a little more than timber but will not rot, and they hold up far better in strong winds. When panels eventually need replacing, the posts usually stay.

Is it cheaper to repair a fence or replace it?

+

If the posts are sound and only a few panels or boards are damaged, a repair is usually cheaper. If posts are rotten or leaning along the run, replacing the whole fence is better value. We will tell you honestly which makes sense.

How much do driveway gates cost?

+

Gates vary too much for a sensible per-metre figure. Size, material, whether they are automated and the condition of the posts or pillars all affect the price, so we quote every gate after a free site visit.
